> Develop overall level of English in terms of grammar (being able to describe events the past, present, and future)

> Give trainees the tools and confidence to clarify information they receive from others (instructions, requests)

> Introduce trainees to important elements of the Irish culture to aid with delivering high-level care to patients

> Provide trainees with the language to politely and confidently greet patients and their family members

> Introduce trainees to common Irish-English expressions they are likely to come across in their workplace

Improvers Course Outline:

> Improve the trainee’s ability to describe situations and objects in detail

> Introduce the trainee to ‘polite language’ and its importance in Irish culture and for interacting with colleagues and patients

> Provide the trainees with the tools and language to make polite requests

> Develop the trainees’ abilities to give and receive instructions effectively

> Help trainees to understand feedback more clearly (which can be impacted by cultural differences)

> Improve trainees written communication in English

> Introduce trainees to professional telephone manner in English

> Further develop the trainees’ knowledge of Irish-English expressions that they are likely to come across in their workplace

Advanced Course Outline:

> Further develop trainees’ abilities to communicate in a polite and professional manner

> Introduce trainees to language to help them effectively deal with complaints

> Provide trainees with the language and tools to delegate tasks in a respectful yet assertive manner

> Develop the trainees language to be able to actively participate in and lead team meetings

> Develop the trainees English competence for dealing with sensitive issues

> Further develop the trainees confidence in using English so that they feel that they can move into or improve their performance in a supervisory/managerial role

> Provide the trainees with the language to politely make recommendations

> Introduce important events and celebrations in Irish culture
